Hydraulic System: An efficiently designed hydraulic system is provided to operate rotation, feed, jack mast raising cylinders, break out wrenches, and water/foam injection pump. The system is operated with Tractor Engine. The system incorporates full release filtration, in-tank return and suction filters, and an efficient oil system to obtain a long hydraulic system.

The hydraulic system includes a hydraulic Oil Cooler suitable for 50-degree Centigrade ambient, high-pressure hydraulic hoses, control valves, gauges, etc. for efficient operations. Break Out System: Break out Wrench: Hydraulic break out wrench cylinder is provided with a provision of opening drill pipe, hammer, button bits, etc on the centralizer drill table using appropriate wrenches/tools. Stroke about 350mm Torque 200kg-M (approximately).

 Swing Out Centraloser Table: The working table/centralizer is having a minimum table opening of 240mm. The centralizer table has to be set above the tractor chassis to prevent the drill cuttings from falling back into the hole.

  Dust Curtain: A rubberized curtain (dust curtain) is provided to protect the operators from falling stone cuttings or splashing of water during drilling or blowing.

 Aux Winch: The mast is equipped with a hydraulically operated winch having a jib boom for the handling of drill pipes, hammers, and heavy tools. The rated capacity of the hydraulic hoist is 1000 kg with built-in brakes and is provided with a suitably sized cable of the necessary length. The winch is operated simultaneously when drilling is carried out for handling drill pipes etc.

Rod Changing Device: (Optional) A rod changing mechanism for fast makeup and brake out of drill string is provided.

 Airline Lubricator: A inline oiler of adequate capacity and suitable for working pressure up to 250 PSI is provided for injecting oil in all compressed air streams complete with oil reservoir volume control is provided.

 Control Panel: The centralizer control panel is located at a convenient place on the drill to enable the driller to efficiently control the operation. All levers, valves, and gauges are conveniently grouped. The control for setting up of the rig is grouped in such a way to prevent accidental operation while drilling. A lockable steel cover (control panel cover) is provided for the control panes to protect gauges and controls during transportation. Gauges will include rotation, pull down, hold back/air pressure and an emergency shut down switch for the engine will be provided.

Horizontal Directional Drilling or HDD, is a steerable trenchless method of installing underground pipe, conduit, or cable in a shallow arc along a prescribed bore path by using a surface-launched drilling rig, with minimal impact on the surrounding area.

Directional Drilling is used when trenching or excavation is not practical. It is suitable for a variety of soil conditions and jobs including road, landscape and river crossings. Pipe can be made of materials such as PVC, polyethylene, polypropylene, ductile iron, and steel as long as it can be pulled through the drilled hole.

Stage 1 of the Horizontal Directional Drilling Process – Drilling the Pilot Hole

Drilling a pilot hole is the first step in a successful Horizontal Directional Drilling Process. A pilot hole is drilled horizontally and follows a preset design path under and across the barrier. In a housing right behind the directional drilling cutting head, an electronic transmitter is installed. The transmitter sends a signal to the surface, which the receiver reads and relays to the directional drill rig operator. The directional driller can then steer the bore path in any desired direction using the communicated information.

Once the pilot hole has been completed, the borehole must be enlarged to a suitable diameter for the product pipeline. This is accomplished in the second stage of the Horizontal Directional Drilling Process by “pre reaming” the horizontal boring to successively larger diameters. Generally, the reamer is attached to the drill string on the opposite end of the borehole from the drill and pulled back into the pilot hole. Slurry is pumped into the directionally drilled borehole to maintain the integrity of the hole and to flush out cuttings.

Stage 3 of the horizontal directional drilling process is pullback. Once the directionally drilled hole is enlarged, the conduit can be pulled through it. The pipeline is prefabricated at the end of the bore opposite the drill rig. A reamer is attached to the drill string, and then connected to the product by a pulling head and swivel. The swivel allows for the reamer to turn without the product turning. The directional drilling rig then begins the pullback operation, rotating and pulling on the drill string as well as circulating drilling fluids. The pullback continues until the reamer exits the bore path by the directional drill rig and the pipeline is in place.

Stage 4 of the Horizontal Directional Drilling Process – Installation of Conduits

If the horizontally bored conduit is to carry power lines, fiber optic cable, or some other product, an aircraft cable is inserted into the pipe prior to pulling into position. After the pipe installation, the directional drill rig is used to pull the product into position within the pipe. This final step in the Horizontal Directional Drilling Process includes pressure testing to ensure the integrity of the pipe. Percussive drilling is slower than rotary drilling but has several special applications, such as for shallow holes. In percussive drilling, blows are applied successively to a tool attached to rods or a cable, and the tool is rotated so that a new portion of the face is attacked at each blow.

Another simple percussive drill consists of one or more lengths of wrought-iron pipe open at both ends, driven by a heavy hammer or, for larger holes, a light pile driver. A second cylinder is sunk inside the first, and water is pumped down the inner pipe to loosen soil and raise debris. For deep boring, rotary drilling has replaced these methods.

Long after the rock drill was invented, manual drilling by two men was still usual in mining operations. One man turned the drill, while the second swung the hammer. Most advances in drilling machinery have been developed by tuneless.
